Q: How do I select the best mover?
A: Good movers don't do estimates over the phone, they will come out and look. If your building has an elevator, they will schedule more workers to save time.

Q: What questions should I ask the movers?
A: Do they give senior discounts? Do they move plants? What is their availability? Is it cheaper to move during the week vs the weekend?

Q: How do I know how many wardrobe boxes I need?
A: Measure running closet space. You will get about 22" of closet space in each 24" wardrobe box. Better to have too many boxes than not enough.

Q: How do I know what size box to use?
A: Refer to the Moving and Packing Tips link on our site.

Q: How do I determine how many boxes I need?
A: Our Order form will calculate the number and type of boxes for your move.

Q: How do I pack dishes and why use a dish pack?
A: Dish packs with separators are specially designed to protect your dishes. Plates should be packed on edge, not flat. Pack glasses standing up. Wrap thin stem crystal with bubble wrap or paper. Put heaviest items on the bottom and fill up with lighter items.

Q: What is the best way to pack books?
A: Pack books flat, with alternating spines in small boxes. Large boxes filled with books are to heavy to handle and don't stack well.

Q: How do I pack towels, blankets, bedding, etc.?
A: Clothes can stay in dresser drawers. Use towels, blankets, and pillows to fill up partially filled boxes of other items.

Q: What is newsprint and why do you recommend I use it?
A: Newsprint is used as cushing and to prevent scratching. Newsprint is newspaper without the ink which prevents any transference to or staining of your items. It is also easy to use.

Q: How do I pack mirrors and pictures?
A: Mirrors and framed items should have ½" bubble wrapped around the frame before packing in special boxes. If the frame is thin enough to pack more than one picture or mirror in the same box, prevent damage by packing front-to-front or back to back. Refer to mirror boxes under Moving & Packing Tips.

Q: How heavy do I pack a box?
A: Pack boxes only as heavy as you can lift. Boxes are not expected to hold more than 65 pounds.

Q: What kinds of items should I pack together?
A: Put items going to the same room destination together. Mark boxes appropriately. Such as bedroom, bath, linen closet, etc.

Q: Do I need to label each box?
A: Yes, write the contents on the box and put a label across a corner of each box showing room destination. This will speed up unloading and save on labor costs.

Q: How should I stack boxes?
A: Boxes stack better if they are filled - if they are not filled all the way, they will crush under the weight of a heavier box stacked on top. One of the biggest mistakes is not filling a box all the way. If the box is not full enough, fill in with towels, throw pillows, bedding, etc. Mark box "CAREFUL WHEN OPENING" so pillows are not cut when opening the box.

Q: How do I pack fragile or decorative items?
A: Put fragile items in an appropriate sized box with padding around all sides. 2"-3" of styrofoam peanuts surrounding the item is recommended. Items tightly packed will travel better. Sharp edged objects should be packed separately with plenty of packing material around them.

Q: How can I pack tall or awkward items?
A: Items such as pole lamps, golf clubs, garden tools, sporting goods, etc. can be packed in wardrobe boxes.
